Dear Patient
One of your investigative procedures, namely the hysterosalpingogram (HSG x-ray), will be done between the end of your period and the 10th – 12th day of your cycle.
Please notify the person responsible for booking your HSG if you are allergic to Iodine or Shell Fish, as you will need to be given a short course of Cortisone prior to the procedure.
In addition to your preliminary counseling, we would like to review your potential post procedure expectations:
- You may experience mild to moderate uterine cramping for between 24 – 72 hours for which any mild pain relief should be effective.
- For certain Patients, Antibiotics may be prescribed and must be completed as directed.
- Avoid tampons, douching and intercourse for 48 – 72 hours or as per doctor’s instructions.
PLEASE LET US KNOW if you experience any of the following:
- Lower abdominal pain which persists overnight.
- Increased vaginal bleeding (that soaks a sanitary pad) OR spotting which persists for more than 2 days.
- Temperature greater than 37.8
- Foul smelling vaginal discharge.
Please ensure that you have made a follow up appointment to discuss your results.
